Tuesday Morning Memo: September 20, 2022

 

I. Praise and Thanks:

  • Thanks to Kim Britt and Jessica Hill for integrating Music in their classroom. I heard joyful sounds from our Kinder students! I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers. 
  • Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair! I appreciate the teachable moment they provided to our students on how sales tax is figured in a purchase. What a great way to make learning relevant in support of our Math SIT Goal!
II. Today's Events: 
  • 8:00-8:20 a.m.-Schoolwide Morning Meeting via Zoom
  • 8:15-9:30 a.m.-5th Grade PLT
  • 10:20-11:35 a.m.-2nd Grade PLT
  • 12:05-1:20 p.m.-1st Grade PLT
  • 3:00-4:00 p.m.-MTSS Meeting
III. Reminders and Updates:

A. Add To Your "To Do" List:
  •  EC Department Survey Due Today
  • Performance Goals Due Tomorrow
B. Scheduling Pre-Observations/Goals Review:
  • I sent out an email with communication on upcoming pre-observation conferences/goals review. 
  • Dr. Snow and I will send an individual group email to the groups we are observing with more details and directions to schedule a time for the pre-conference/goals review. 
C. Invention Convention Opportunity: 
  • Please consider joining me on an opportunity to further efforts with Invention Convention at the Academy. This is a great opportunity to ignite the spark of innovation and creativity for our mini-Mountaineers. 
  • This Friday at 7:15 a.m.,.  I will host a brief huddle in my office for anyone interested in learning more.

D. LETRS Training Next Week: 
  • We have LETRS PD next week and that means we have many teachers out of the classroom involved with this important training. 
  • Please see Heather Wham's email regarding coverage for these dates next week. 
E. This Wednesday Read Aloud: University Partnership Opportunity!
  • In addition to the Duke Energy Presentations scheduled, we also have friends from the Appalachian State University Office of Diversity coming to read aloud to our mini-Mountaineers. 
  • Here's the flow for this opportunity:
    • 9:00-9:30-K-5 Read Aloud in the Media Center
    • Specialists will need to bring 5th Grade to the Media Center and teachers will join students at 9:15 a.m.
    • Specialists will meet 4th Grade in the Media Center at 9:25 a.m.
    • 9:45-10:15 a.m.-K-2 Read Aloud in the Media Center
F. EDU 2000 Student Visit: University Partnership Opportunity!
  • Dr. Snow shared details in an email for Friday's visit from university students. 
  • This is an exciting opportunity for our future educators to see our lab school. 
  • Please be sure to review the schedule Dr. Snow shared in that email prior to Friday's visit. 
G. Lab School Renewal:
  • I will be heading to Chapel Hill around midday for the final presentation on our lab school renewal to the UNC System Board of Governors.
