  Dear Academy Friends,  Thanks so much for your efforts to secure a proactive and productive conclusion to the 2nd Quarter! I am grateful for your efforts with meeting the Report Card deadline. Additionally, I appreciate first steps to do something new with student-led conferences.   I. Praise and Thanks:  Megan Garner would like to share a shoutout to Ayden Tackett and Raygan Lloyd. She was observed both supporting and re-directing a student in crisis. Thankful for the student-centered support for our mini-Mountaineers!  Thanks to Alexa McDonough for facilitating an #InstantPD session at our last faculty meeting.   I. Praise and Thanks:  A special thanks to Darron Daniels for his efforts in organizing our Safety Fest this Friday. Mr. Daniels exemplifies The Portrait element of "being  committed to the school’s vision and mission." Congratulations to Alicia Kinzer and Heather Wham for recent social media recognition for being exemplars for "The Portrait of a Lab School Team Member." A special shoutout to Ms. Marshall's 5th Grade Class! On Friday, I was making rounds and I seized upon an opportunity on a teachable moment regarding Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The class was attentive, respectful, and asked excellent questions. I appreciate the efforts Ms. Marshall makes to build a classroom community. It was evident during my visit on Friday. II.   I. Praise and Thanks:  Thanks to Coach P. for going above and beyond the call of duty with the basketball goal construction. This truly exemplifies The Portrait element of "being a team player who is committed to doing what is best for students." Thanks to Kali Moore and Tiffany McKenzie for already making a positive impact with our mini-Mountaineers! I have seen them both exemplify the Portrait element of "meeting students relationally before trying to engage academically, seeing each child individually as a whole person, and recognizing their inherent dignity."
