The Academy Weekly Memo: January 3-5, 2024

 


I. Praise and Thanks: 
  • Thanks to everyone for a solid and productive first day back in 2024! I am so grateful for your questions, ideas, and insights. Thanks for your professionalism, dedication, and energy! We have truly got this and I am so glad our mini-Mountaineers have you on their side.

III. Reminders and Updates

A. Items from January 2nd Faculty Meeting
C. January 12: Safety Fest on Enrichment Friday-This event will be an opportunity for our mini-Mountaineers to learn about safety from App State Police and other first responders. More details to come. Teachers will be in PLTs and co-planning. We are also hopeful that the ESS subs will be able to begin on this day. The contract has been signed and we are making plans to orient them to the Academy. Stay tuned for more details on the ESS subs. 

D.  Student-Led Conferences:
  • Student-Led Conferences will take place on January 25-26. These days are teacher workdays and certified faculty will be required to work at the Academy on both of these days. Teachers Assistants and Academic Tutors may opt to take leave, work from home, or work at school during these days. 
  • Each conference will last 15 minutes with students sharing their best work to both parents/guardians and teachers. 
  • Teachers are responsible for creating a sign-up genius to share with parents/guardians and schedule conferences
E. Instant PD: 
  • I am looking for teachers and staff to share an classroom idea/practice with other colleagues. 
  • Instant PD is an afterschool, optional, 15-minute PD session. It is designed for teachers and staff to learn about classroom practice or solution that can be applied the next day. 
  • If you are interested in sharing and presenting an idea for Instant PD, then please let me know. I have some available slots to schedule in January. I would love to see folks share their genius!

  I. Praise and Thanks: Thanks to Kim Britt and Jessica Hill for integrating Music in their classroom. I heard joyful sounds from our Kinder students! I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers.  Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair! I appreciate the teachable moment they provided to our students on how sales tax is figured in a purchase. What a great way to make learning relevant in support of our Math SIT Goal! II.   Today Is The First Day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I have a copy of the amazing picture book, The Astronaut With A Song For The Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa.  Please let me know if you would like for me to visit your classroom and read it to our students.
