The Academy Weekly Memo: January 29-February 2, 2024
Dear Academy Friends,
Thanks so much for your efforts to secure a proactive and productive conclusion to the 2nd Quarter! I am grateful for your efforts with meeting the Report Card deadline. Additionally, I appreciate first steps to do something new with student-led conferences. The pivot to do something different to uplift student voice and build connections with our families is truly remarkable! I truly value and appreciate you!

I. Praise and Thanks:
- Thanks to Alix Denny and Suzanne Smith for their proactive efforts in taking HIKE to the next level for our 5th Graders. I appreciate them both demonstrating The Portrait element of "seeing possibilities instead of limitations."

- Enrichment Friday Community Events:

- Academy at Elkin Teachers will visit and participate in PD with us!
- 8:00-10:00 UFLI Training (The expectation is for L. Martinez, 2-3 grade span, 4-5 grade span, EC team to attend. Academic Tutor attendance is optional. We will meet in the library.)
- 8:30 a.m.-BT Visit to Vienna Elementary School with Heather Wham
- 10:00-11:30 Grade spans decide how they use this time for planning or PLT.
- 11:30-12:15 Lunch & Learn with both Lab Schools to share and discuss Glows & Grows on Co-Teaching (The expectation is for all certified personnel attend - K-2 in the STEM room & 3-5 in the learning lab, EC, ML & Specialists chose which group to attend.)
III. Reminders and Updates:
A. Black History Month begins on February 1. We have some exciting community events scheduled for upcoming Enrichment Fridays during the month of February. Stay tuned for upcoming details!
B. We have a Faculty Meeting scheduled for this Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. We will gather in the 100 Hallway Learning Lab. Our purpose is to recap and take a deep dive on the HIKE Expectations and the new Classroom Management Form. Curriculum Coaches and reps for EC and Specials are going to unveil the new form with their respective teams on Monday. Click here to preview our meeting agenda.
C. Report Cards will go home with students this Thursday. We are working on reviewing and preparing to print them. On Monday, I will be following up with those teachers who made retention recommendations to touch base and schedule parent conferences.
D. This Friday, we have teachers and admin from the Academy at Middle Fork visiting with us. Both schools are coming together for co-learning on reading and math workshop strategies. A schedule for that day is being prepared. Please be sure to see Dr. Snow's email on this with information on ordering lunch from the Town Fork Mobile Kitchen. That lunch order is due Tuesday, January 30 by 3:00 p.m. We are also having an in-person Lunch & Learn with Elkin on Co-Teaching. The expectation is for all certified personnel attend:
- K-2 in the STEM room
- 3-5 in the Learning Lab
- EC, ML & Specialists Teachers are to chose which group to attend.
