Tuesday Morning Memo: August 30, 2022


I. Praise and Thanks: 
  • Thanks to everyone for an absolutely amazing first day of school! I am so grateful for each of you and I appreciate your intentional efforts to be a learning together community for our mini-Mountaineers! It was wonderful seeing classroom communities being built, school tours taking place, and instruction happening! 
II. Today's Events: 
  • 8:00-8:25 a.m.-Schoolwide Morning Meeting via Zoom (check your email calendar invitation for the link)
  • 9:00-9:25 a.m.-Office Team Meeting 
  • 3:00-3:30 p.m.-HIKE/Restorative Justice Committee Check-In
III. Reminders and Updates:

A. Instructional Focus Points: 
  • Continue to build relationships, establish classroom community, and practice routines/procedures.
  • Remember to have evidence of the following in place:
    • Morning Meeting
    • Standards aligned with classroom instruction
    • Time On Task-make sure you are following the master schedule
    • Make sure our mini-Mountaineers are feeling Safe, Seen, and Stretched under your watch.
B. HIKE Reminders:
  • We will a schoolwide welcome back assembly this Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in the Gym. The HIKE Team is organizing this assembly. The assembly will conclude at 9:15 a.m.
  • The HIKE/RJ Team is reminded to meet with Darron Daniels today after school at 3:00 p.m. in the Care and Hope Room. 
C. Quick Faculty Meeting on Wednesday: 
  • We will have a brief faculty meeting at 3:00 p.m. in the Media Center. 
  • Nurse Julie Davis has to go over some important medical information with us. 
D. Testing Updates
  • We will have to meet on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. for Kori Trainor to go over Testing Code of Ethics for all staff. Afterwards, she will provide BOG Training for selected staff. 
  • When we meet at 3:00 p.m., I will briefly update on our achievement data from last year. The State School Board of Education will publicly release data on Thursday. 
  • Please be sure to complete your Testing Module by August 31. When you complete that module, please email your certificate to Kori Trainor
E. Dismissal Reminders:
  • Afternoon announcements will begin at 2:15 p.m.
  • Please sure to have students packed and ready for dismissal by 2:20 p.m. 
  • Everyone needs to be at their assigned spots for dismissal by 2:20 p.m.
F. Optional Book Study
  • There are two titles on the horizon for optional book studies: 
    • Safe, Seen, and Stretched in the Classroom by Julie Hasson
    • Innovate Inside the Box by Katie Novak & George Couros
  • We will start with Innovate Inside the Box. More information on the book can be found here.
  • If you are interested in participating in this first book study, then complete the form here.
G. Committee Sign-Ups: 
  • Please be sure to sign up for a committee as soon as possible. 
  • This is an opportunity for you to share your great gifts and strengths! 
  • Kori Trainor has sent a Google Form for you to sign up. Please check for that email.

  I. Praise and Thanks: Thanks to Kim Britt and Jessica Hill for integrating Music in their classroom. I heard joyful sounds from our Kinder students! I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers.  Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair! I appreciate the teachable moment they provided to our students on how sales tax is figured in a purchase. What a great way to make learning relevant in support of our Math SIT Goal! II.   Today Is The First Day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I have a copy of the amazing picture book, The Astronaut With A Song For The Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa.  Please let me know if you would like for me to visit your classroom and read it to our students.
