Wednesday Morning Memo: August 31, 2022

 


I. Praise and Thanks: 
  • Congratulations again to Desteney Greene for being named a North Carolina Principal Fellow! This is such an amazing honor for our colleague. 
  • Thanks to Darron Daniels for his resilience during yesterday's Morning Meeting! We had some technological issues and he stayed the course. Thanks to Amie Snow for pitching in and keeping it moving! 
  • Thanks to Suzanne Smith, Andy Salinas, and Brent Macrow for the invitation to read aloud to their class! I appreciate the positive and inviting atmosphere. I loved spending time with the class! 
  • Thanks to Megan Garner for artistic leadership in preparing artwork for the upcoming Carolina Classic Fair! I appreciate the artistic advocacy for our mini-Mountaineers! 
II. Today's Events:
  • 10:00 a.m.-Care Team Meeting
  • 1:45 p.m.-4th Grade Journal Unwrapping
  • 3:00 p.m.-Faculty Meeting with Nurse Julie Davis
III. Reminders and Updates: 

A. Brief Faculty Meeting Today: 
  • Our School Nurse will meet with us briefly today after school in the Media Center. 
  • We are grateful having Julie Davis with us this year. She was going to share information with us on Friday but was called away. Nurse Davis will share some important information with us all today. It will take around 20-25 mintues. 
B. Backpack Program: 
Ms. E. emailed important information and directions regarding the Backpack Program. 
Please be sure to read that important email in support of our students needing this vital assistance. 
  • Forms are due to Ms. E. by this Friday. 
C. PLT Coverage: 
  • Heather Wham sent important emails regarding PLT Coverage to selected staff. 
  • Please be sure you read that communication. We want to make sure that everyone is in place for supervision so that teachers are able to attend PLTs on time. 
  • PLTs start next week. 
D. Optional Book Study: 
  • You are still invited to join me for the Optional Book Study on Innovate Inside the Box!
  • Click HERE to sign up if you are interested. This is a great opportunity to share and discuss ideas on implementing innovation for our mini-Mountaineers in our lab school. 
E. Official School Data Share, BOG Training, Testing Code of Ethics This Thursday
  • We will need to gather again as an academy faculty on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in the Media Center. 
  • The North Carolina State Board of Education will officially release last year's achievement testing data and school report card grades. I want to share that information with you in person. My portion will be 10 minutes, but it will be the first part of our continuing conversation on boosting academics, one of our academy core commitments. 
  • Kori Trainor will follow to go over Testing Code of Ethics and provide BOG Training. 
F. HIKE Kickoff This Thursday:
  • We will have a welcome back assembly in the gym this Thursday at 8:00 a.m.
  • Our purpose is to kick-off HIKE and build school community together. 
  • Classes will be called down to the gym via the loudspeaker. The assembly will conclude at 9:15 a.m.

  I. Praise and Thanks: Thanks to Kim Britt and Jessica Hill for integrating Music in their classroom. I heard joyful sounds from our Kinder students! I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers.  Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair! I appreciate the teachable moment they provided to our students on how sales tax is figured in a purchase. What a great way to make learning relevant in support of our Math SIT Goal! II.   Today Is The First Day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I have a copy of the amazing picture book, The Astronaut With A Song For The Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa.  Please let me know if you would like for me to visit your classroom and read it to our students.
