I. Praise and Thanks: 
  • Thanks to Denisse Alvarez for her leadership in providing an overview of Hispanic Heritage Month during Thursday's Morning Meeting! I am grateful for her energetic communication in kicking off schoolwide awareness of this important month. 
  • Thanks again to Cindy Hall for her sincere, inspiring, and uplifting words during our Academy at Middle Fork Advisory Board Meeting! I appreciate her leadership and empathy for our mini-Mountaineers! 
II. Today's Events:
  • 7:55-8:25 a.m.-Specialists PLT
  • 8:30-10:00 a.m.-3rd Grade Math BOG
III. Second Chance Drawing!
  • 2 Tickets for this Saturday's App State vs. Troy Football Game are up for grabs. Tickets include early access into the stadium along with access to the sidelines during warm-up time. 
  • I will be in the office from 7:00-7:30 a.m. to collect names to be entered into the drawing. Good luck! 
IV. Reminders and Updates

A. Hispanic Heritage Month:
  • Be on the lookout for more news on activities and events in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. 
  • Please invite me to class for a read aloud of The Astronaut With a Song for the Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa. 
B. Performance Matters:
  • Remember that your institutional and individual goals are due by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21. 
C. EC Survey:
  • Remember to complete the EC Department Support Survey by Tuesday, September 20. 
  • Desteney Greene emailed this important survey earlier this week. 
D. Field Trip Requests:
  • Complete the Google Form for all Field Trip Requests by Friday, October 14. 
  • Please see my previous blog post on this with the link to the Google Form. 
E. Fall Book Fair Sign-Up:
  • Ayden Tackett emailed a sign-up form for next week's Book Fair.
  • Please be sure to read over that important along with the schedule embedded in
F. Color Days: 

  • I apologize for not sending this information sooner and missing the other days. My bald head can be forgetful! 
  • Here are the remaining colors are friends in Kindergarten are learning on the following days:
    • Friday, September 16: Black
    • Monday, September 19: Orange
    • Tuesday, September 20: Purple
    • Wednesday, September 21: Brown
    • Thursday, September 22: Pink
    • Friday, September 23: Rainbow
G. Picture Release Forms: Part 2
  • We are going to go ahead and issue new Picture Release Forms to all students. 
  • This will ensure that we have a complete and full account of recent parental/guardian permission. 
  • Forms will be given to homeroom teachers on Monday for distribution. 
  • We will issue new forms every year at Open House. 
  • New forms will be in mailboxes by the end of the day on Friday. 
H. Stay tuned for a schedule for next Wednesday's Reading Day with our friends from the App State Office of Diversity and next Friday's EDU 2000 Visit.

  • Please be sure you have kept up with Matt Cooke's emails and requests regarding technology. 
J. Innovate Inside the Box copies have been ordered for those opting to participating in this upcoming book study.

I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers.  Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair! I appreciate the teachable moment they provided to our students on how sales tax is figured in a purchase. What a great way to make learning relevant in support of our Math SIT Goal! II.   Today Is The First Day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I have a copy of the amazing picture book, The Astronaut With A Song For The Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa.  Please let me know if you would like for me to visit your classroom and read it to our students.
