Friday Morning Memo: September 9, 2022
Good Morning and Happy Friday! Thanks for Hiking Higher This Week! Let's reach the summit on an uplifting and upbeat note together for our mini-Mountaineers!
I. Praise and Thanks:
- Thanks to Elif Erginer for building solutions for starting a student kindness club! I am grateful for proactive ways to empower kindness for others!
- Thanks to Brent Macrow for sharing a proactive solution for enhancing our math achievement! His email was a daymaker! I love the hearing new ideas to support our children!
- Thanks to Suzanne Smith, Brent Macrow, Joy Hickman, Claire Little, Chantae Reynolds, Joseph Fewell, Heather Wham, Ayden Tackett, Leroy Sexton, Marisol Guzman, and Chelsea Beamer for solid teamwork in administering and proctoring our 3rd Grade Reading BOG!
II. Today's Events:
- Possible 3rd Grade BOG Make-Ups
- 9:00 a.m.-LB the Poet Visit-This is an educator-poet bandmate of mine who is visiting the Academy today. You may see him and I hope you get to meet this engaging and uplifting genius with words.
- 9:30-11:30 a.m.-5th Grade Math BOG
III. Reminders and Updates:
A. Emergency Action Plan
- Darron Daniels sent the updated Emergency Action Plan. This is a very important document for all to have. It is also located on our shared drive.
- Each classroom teacher and specialist should have received a printed copy. Those printed copies are to be inserted in the red binder that is located in your red/black emergency bag. Please do that as soon as possible.
- We will have an emergency evacuation drill at some point next week. Please be sure to review those procedures with your students.
B. ERG Visit Next Thursday
- Heather Horton of ERG returns next Thursday to continue Standards-Based Grading professional development for all classroom teachers.
- We will run PLTs on Thursday. Teachers will go to PLTs with Heather during Specials.
- Teachers are to bring laptops with access to Math Pre-Assessment Data. Also, please bring any Math Manipulatives or activities that correspond with the pre-assessment data.
C. Planned Lessons due today. Please be sure to upload on Google Drive by 4:30 p.m.

D. Optional Book Study Sign-Up Due Today:
- The front cover of Innovate Inside the Box by Katie Novak and George Couros has the following quote endorsement from Daniel Pink on the front cover: "If you're looking to bring creativity to student learning amid all the constraints educators face, this is the book for you."
- All are invited to participate in this book with partners from Appalachian State University, Elkin, WS/FCS and other community partners.
- We plan to meet four times via Zoom during the following dates and times:
- Wednesday, October 5, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 2, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, December 7, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, January 18, 3:00-4:00 p.m.
