  • Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for organizational leadership with our Book Fair! I appreciate the efforts promote a love of reading for our mini-Mountaineers. 
  • Thanks to Suzanne Smith, Allison Phelps, Brent Macrow, and Matt Cooke for their interest in participating in Invention Convention. I look forward to the innovative approaches coming the pike for our mini-Mountaineers.

III. Reminders and Updates: 

A. Book Fair Ends Monday
  • The Book Fair concludes on Monday.
  • This is the last day for students to purchase items from the Fall Book Fair. 
B. Open Way Learning Visit on Tuesday
  • This Tuesday, Open Way Learning will be at the Academy to work on support for our vision and mission statements. 
  • They will meet with a parent focus group in the morning.
  • PLTs will be facilitated by Open Way Learning to work with teachers on vision/mission. All Specialists, EC, and ML Teachers are to pick a PLT to attend on that day. 
  • We will all convene with Open Way Learning for our Faculty Meeting at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. 
  • Please be on time for both PLTs and the Faculty Meeting. Thanks!
C. Upcoming Faculty Meetings/Early Release Days/Teacher Workdays:
  • We are working on scheduling the professional development themes for faculty meetings, early release days, and teacher workdays, so please stay tuned for further information. 
  • Each of the monthly faculty meetings will be devoted to professional development in Restorative Practices. The other faculty meeting will serve as an extension of PLTs and SIT Goals. 
D. Field Trip Requests:
  • The deadline to get your field trip requests in for review is Friday, October 14. 
  • All requests will be reviewed and approved after October 14. We have to check on availability of buses and make sure that dates do not conflict with any pending student assessment dates.

E. Principal Good News Call of the Day: 
  • Do you have a student or know of a colleague who has hiked higher above and beyond the call of duty? Let's celebrate that person! 
  • I would love to surprise that person with a Good News Call of the Day home to a family member.

F. #CelebrateMonday: What's On Your Bookshelf? 
  • Several years ago, I invented a hashtag called #CelebrateMonday. 
  • It was my attempt to help schools start off on an upbeat and uplifting note. Monday is an opportunity for new beginnings. The hashtag has trended on Twitter and one video I did for #CelebrateMonday went viral! 
  • Please join me in contributing to this Microsoft Flip Video and share what's currently on your reading list. 
  • I am going to come up with a weekly video for you to add a response. This could be an activity that you do also do for Morning Meeting with our mini-Mountaineers.

  I. Praise and Thanks: Thanks to Kim Britt and Jessica Hill for integrating Music in their classroom. I heard joyful sounds from our Kinder students! I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers.  Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair! I appreciate the teachable moment they provided to our students on how sales tax is figured in a purchase. What a great way to make learning relevant in support of our Math SIT Goal! II.   Today Is The First Day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I have a copy of the amazing picture book, The Astronaut With A Song For The Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa.  Please let me know if you would like for me to visit your classroom and read it to our students.
