Wednesday Morning Memo: September 14, 2022

  • Thanks for your efforts to HIKE higher for our mini-Mountaineers! I am so impressed with the classroom communities and connections you are building for all of our students! 


I. Praise and Thanks: 
  • Thanks to Marla Cantrell, Alicia Kinzer, Allison Phelps, and Kaitlyn Marshall for being stellar stewards during the Newton-Conover School Visit to their respective classrooms!
  • Thanks to Denisse Alvarez, Jean Carlos Garcia Reyes,  Robin Phelps, and RaChelle Wood for participating in the Teacher Focus Group with our visitors from Newton-Conover Schools! I appreciate their leadership and sharing.

III. Reminders and Updates:

A. Leave Request Follow-Up
  • Please be sure to provide clear details on the reason for your leave request in the space provided on the form. 
  • It is important that every effort is made to schedule appointments before or after school hours. whenever possible. 
  • Please be sure that you have fully reviewed the leave policy in the staff handbook if you have not done so. I am here to support you however I can and I am grateful for the efforts. 
B. Performance Management Deadline Extension
  • All institutional and individual goals are now due by 4:30 p.m. by Wednesday, September 21. 
  • HR is addressing a technical issue on that platform for us. It should be corrected soon and I will let you know when I hear back from HR that you should be good to complete. In the meantime, please continue reflection on your goals and prepare accordingly. 
  • I am looking for goals that align with our SIT Goals and plans to HIKE higher this year for our students. Goals must reflect meaningful reflection on your part and connect to be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. 
C. PowerSchool Maintenance Weekend
  • PowerSchool will be down this weekend due to statewide maintenance and updates. 
  • Click HERE for all of the dates that PowerSchool will be down for maintenance. 
D. EC Survey
  • Please be sure to complete the important survey regarding our EC Services and Support for our EC Students. 
  • Desteney Greene emailed that survey on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Please complete this important survey by Tuesday, September 20. 
E. Field Trip Requests:
  • Field Trips are a vital part of our mini-Mountaineers' educational experience. 
  • Grade Levels are requested to collaborate on planning and scheduling field trips for this school year. 
  • I will need all field trip requests for this school year submitted via this Google Form by October 16.
  • Planning in advance helps with scheduling transportation, planning meals, classroom coverage, student supervision. 
  • Please see me if you have any questions. Thanks!
F. Photo Release Forms: 
  • We are in the process of gathering all Photo Release Forms for our students. 
  • Please bring those forms to Paula Anderson by this Friday, September 16.
  • It is important that we make sure that we have proper parent/guardian permission to photograph and film students.

I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers.  Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair!   Today Is The First Day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I have a copy of the amazing picture book, The Astronaut With A Song For The Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa.  Please let me know if you would like for me to visit your classroom and read it to our students.
