II. Reminders and Updates:

A. Renewal:
  • The Board of Governors unanimously voted for the Academy at Middle Fork to be renewed for an additional five years. 
  • This is cause for great joy and celebration!
  • Please be sure to see my email on this for details and next steps. 
B. Today's Read Aloud: University Partnership Opportunity!
  • In addition to the Duke Energy Presentations scheduled, we also have friends from the Appalachian State University Office of Diversity coming to read aloud to our mini-Mountaineers. 
  • Here's the flow for this opportunity:
    • 9:00-9:30-K-5 Read Aloud in the Media Center
    • Specialists will need to bring 5th Grade to the Media Center and teachers will join students at 9:15 a.m.
    • Specialists will meet 4th Grade in the Media Center at 9:25 a.m.
    • 9:45-10:15 a.m.-K-2 Read Aloud in the Media Center
C. Helpful Tip:  App State no longer uses "ASU".  To set ourselves apart from Arizona State University, University Communications requires us to refer to the university as App State when shortening the name.  

D. Lab School Planning Committee:
  • We are looking for ways to connect, network, and socialize with our sister lab school in Elkin! 
  • Please consider joining the Lab School Planning Committee. I do really want to see Middle Fork represented on this planning committee. Click HERE to sign up!
E. Author Visit This Friday:
  • Zahra Marwan is visiting the Academy this Friday. She is the author of Where Butterflies Fill the Sky. This is due to our connection with Bookmarks. 
  • 10:00-10:30: 3-5 (Specialists will need to bring 4th grade to the Media Center and then teachers can meet them there at the conclusion of specials. 3rd will have to alternate their recess time a bit.
  • 10:35-11:05 K-2 (Specialists will need to bring 2nd grade to the Media Center and teachers will meet them there - they will probably need to go straight to lunch from there.)
F.October 14 Lab School Meet-Up:
  • Please consider spending some social time with our Elkin Lab School Friends on October 14 at the Playground in Clemmons. Dr. Snow sent an email on this event and click HERE to sign up.

  I. Praise and Thanks: Thanks to Kim Britt and Jessica Hill for integrating Music in their classroom. I heard joyful sounds from our Kinder students! I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers.  Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair! I appreciate the teachable moment they provided to our students on how sales tax is figured in a purchase. What a great way to make learning relevant in support of our Math SIT Goal! II.   Today Is The First Day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I have a copy of the amazing picture book, The Astronaut With A Song For The Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa.  Please let me know if you would like for me to visit your classroom and read it to our students.
