I. Praise and Thanks: 
  • Thanks to Liliana Martinez, Matt Hamm, Desteney Greene, and Amie Snow for their collaborative energy and excellence at the AIM Conference! We attended with our colleagues from our sister lab school. It was such an enjoyable experience #learningtogether at AIM! 
  • Thanks to Marla Cantrell for efforts in getting the food truck to the Academy on Monday!

III. Reminders and Updates:

A. 1st Quarter Grading Deadline Reminder: 
  • Here's a reminder on End of Quarter Grading.
  • The deadline to have all 1st Quarter Grades entered into PowerSchool and Report Cards prepared is Friday, November 4 by 10:00 a.m. 
  • I will review each report card for completion and accuracy. If any changes need to be made on the report card, then it will be returned to you by that Monday, November 7. 
  • Report Cards will go home on Thursday, November 10.
B. October 31st Teacher Workday
  • We will have a mandatory teacher workday on October 31 from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
  • A Free Lunch is being provided by the Table Food Truck! TAs and Classified Staff are invited to pick up lunch, too. The truck arrives at 11:00 a.m.
  • Dr. Snow and I need some time with all teachers to go over some items regarding collaborative planning and other instructional items. We are both looking forward to this time with you!
  • The rest of the day will be devoted to preparing report cards and/or individual/team planning. 
C. Morning & Dismissal Procedures Reminder
  • During the morning, all teachers are reminded to be at your classroom doors greeting and welcoming our students by 7:30 a.m. Everyone else must be at their duty spots by 7:30 a.m.
  • For afternoon dismissal, please be sure to have kids packed and ready by 2:20 p.m. This also means everyone is where they need to be need to be by 2:20 p.m. as well. 
D. For Your Toolbox: NC Portrait of a Graduate
  • The state superintendent has released the new NC Portrait of a Graduate. 
  • I attended a few sessions on the new portrait at the AIM Conference. 
  • Even though we are an elementary school, the NC Portrait of a Graduate does give us things to consider as we prepare our students to HIKE higher into the future. 
  • Many of the ideas in the NC Portrait of a Graduate reflect our collective work on crafting a new school vision and mission statement.

  I. Praise and Thanks: Thanks to Kim Britt and Jessica Hill for integrating Music in their classroom. I heard joyful sounds from our Kinder students! I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers.  Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair! I appreciate the teachable moment they provided to our students on how sales tax is figured in a purchase. What a great way to make learning relevant in support of our Math SIT Goal! II.   Today Is The First Day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I have a copy of the amazing picture book, The Astronaut With A Song For The Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa.  Please let me know if you would like for me to visit your classroom and read it to our students.
