  • Thanks to Denise Gallimore for efforts in organizing and planning our participation in the upcoming Walkertown Holiday Parade. 
  • Thanks to Alix Denny for her efforts in creating a new partnership with App State known as the Mountaineer Volunteers. 
  • Thanks to Marla Cantrell for her efforts in organizing our Angel Tree. 
  • Thanks to Chelsea Beamer, Ayden Tackett, Zane Gibson, Darron Daniels for their efforts with building the new SOAR Classroom! Also, thanks to Desteney Greene, Cindy Hall, Rebecca Nieves, Denisse Alvarez, and Zane Gibson for their leadership in updating teachers on the new EC Department Changes during PLTs last week. 
  • Thanks to Kori Trainor for organizing the Cici's Pizza Spirit Night last night. It was a success! Thanks to everyone who was able to make the trip to enjoy dinner with our families. 
  • Thanks to Elif Erginer and Carla Clayton for their help with distributing snacks during Friday's Read Alouds.

IV. Reminders and Updates:

A. Holiday Market This Week:
  • The Holiday Market is happening this Wednesday from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
  • Heather Wham emailed a scheduled with details to all faculty on November 28. 
B. Secure Safety Drill:
  • Please be sure to see Darron Daniels' email regarding the Secure Safety Drill scheduled for this Tuesday. 
  • Mr. Daniels has also included information about the News Team, BackPack Program, and Spirit Week in that email. 
C. Spirit Week 
  • Spirit Week is scheduled for December 12-16. This is a fun opportunity to build community and enjoy cheer before Winter Break:
    • December 12: App State Colors/Dress like Yosef Day
    • December 13: Twin/Triplets/Quadruplets Day
    • December 14: Wacky Wedensday
    • December 15: Crazy Hat & Hair Day
    • December 16: Pajama Day + Books & Buddies
D. December 19-21 & January 3 Days

The December 19-21 Days are "Reserved for Teacher Workdays." We will not be hosting any PD during those days at the Academy. You may opt to do one of the following:
  • -You may take those days as Leave Days if you have accrued leave.
  • -You may work from home during those days.
  • -You may use trade or comp time for those days. 
Please let Melanie Hicks-Lane know what option you plan to take for those days so she may have it documented properly for payroll purposes. Melanie needs to your plans no later than Wednesday, December 14. 

The building will be open during those days from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. during those dates. 

January 3rd will be a required teacher workday. All teacher assistants will report back to work on January 4. More details about the January 3rd required teacher workday will be forthcoming.

  I. Praise and Thanks: Thanks to Kim Britt and Jessica Hill for integrating Music in their classroom. I heard joyful sounds from our Kinder students! I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers.  Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair! I appreciate the teachable moment they provided to our students on how sales tax is figured in a purchase. What a great way to make learning relevant in support of our Math SIT Goal! II.   Today Is The First Day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I have a copy of the amazing picture book, The Astronaut With A Song For The Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa.  Please let me know if you would like for me to visit your classroom and read it to our students.
