III. Reminders and Updates: 

A. Attendance: 
  • A reminder for all teachers to document and record attendance in the morning by 9:00 a.m.
  • Please be sure to turn in all tardy, early dismissal, and absence notes from home daily to the office. 
  • Consult Jazz Brown's email on this that was sent on Friday. 
B. Innovation Committees on Tuesday
  • Our first Innovation Committee Meetings will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the Media Center. 
  • We will gather in the Media Center at 3:00 p.m. and then committees will disperse to various areas to convene. 
  • Lead Facilitators for each committee will guide the discussion in collaboration with committee members. If you are still interested in serving on a committee, then please reach out to the Lead Facilitator. Please see my previous email on this for reference. 
C. Updated Calendar: 
  • We have updated our schoolwide calendar! Kori Trainor sent out this link and also placed on the Hub. 
D. Instant PD returns February 2nd! 
  • Check out the Glows & Grows shared at the first session hanging outside my office. 
E. Conference Request Form: 
  • If you are interested in attending or presenting at a conference for professional learning purposes, then you will be required to complete a request form. Your request will be reviewed by Dr. Reeder, Dr. Snow, and myself for approval.

F. Literacy Day at the Kaleideum:
  • The Academy has an opportunity to recruit students at the opening Literacy Day event at the Kaleideum on January 28 from 10:00-3:00 p.m. We are in need of faculty/staff members to volunteer time to work our table of activities and outreach. Please contact either Amie Snow, Denise Gallimore, or myself by this Monday to let us know if you are able to participate. Thanks! 
G. Teacher Workday/PBL Opportunity-January 27
  • This Friday, January 27 is a Teacher Workday. 
  • Teachers may opt to take a leave day or use any trade time if your grades are turned and completed by Thursday, January 26. Non-certified/Non-12 month employee staff are not required to be at school on January 27 and can take leave or trade time. Please be sure to notify Melanie and myself of your choice. 
  • We do have an optional professional development opportunity regarding PBL (Project-Based Learning) being facilitated by our old friend, Adam Haigler, from Open Way Learning. You are encouraged and invited to attend. This is a great opportunity to learn more about integrating innovative instructional opportunities in the classroom for our students. Please see Dr. Reeder's email on this to sign-up. This PD is reserved for 20 spaces. 
H. 2nd Quarter Report Cards and Grades:
  • The 2nd Quarter ends on January 26. 
  • There is a teacher workday scheduled for January 27. 
  • All 2nd Quarter Grades are due to Paula Anderson on Monday, January 30 by 4:00 p.m. Grades 3-5 Grade Verification Sheets are due to Paula Anderson as well. 
  • Specialists Grades Due Monday, January 23.
  • Report Cards are scheduled to go home with students on February 9

  I. Praise and Thanks: Thanks to Kim Britt and Jessica Hill for integrating Music in their classroom. I heard joyful sounds from our Kinder students! I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers.  Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair! I appreciate the teachable moment they provided to our students on how sales tax is figured in a purchase. What a great way to make learning relevant in support of our Math SIT Goal! II.   Today Is The First Day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I have a copy of the amazing picture book, The Astronaut With A Song For The Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa.  Please let me know if you would like for me to visit your classroom and read it to our students.
