III. Updates and Reminders:

A. Design Teams:
  • The first set of Design Teams meets this Tuesday after school from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Everyone is expected to participate and serve on a Design Team this year. 
  • Design Team Assignments were emailed on September 11. If you did not receive an email then, please reach out to me and I will send you an assignment. 
  • Below are the dates for the first design team meetings:
  • Design Team 1 - Curriculum/Academics, Culture & Climate, and Personnel/Human Capital - September 19, 2023
  • Design Team 2 - Cultivation, Finance, and Hospitality - September 26, 2023

B. Curriculum Night:
  • Our first Curriculum Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 21 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. 
  • This is the event where our families will visit to learn about this year's Title I Parent Compact and our new Innovative Schools' Model. 
  • All faculty and staff are expected to attend our quarterly Curriculum Nights. 
  • These events are important opportunities in continuing to develop strong positive relationships and partnerships with our Academy families. 
C. EDU 2000 Visit:
  • App State Students in the EDU 2000 course are coming to visit on Friday, September 22. 
  • This is a great opportunity for future educators to see their university's Lab School in action. We were happy to host these visits last year. 
  • Stay tuned for more details on the schedule for their visit. 

D. Clubs Support:
  • Please let me know if you are interested in extending your club for an additional quarter. 
  • Anyone who agrees to extend their club will receive a small token of appreciation.

E. Annual Security Awareness Training:
  • The window for completing the App State Required Security Awareness has opened. 
  • All App State Employees are required to complete this 30-minute online training by Friday, October 27, 2023. 
  • Please see your email from App State with directions. 
F. Progress Reports are now due on September 28. This date is being changed to give all more time to complete. We will send a template for all to complete. Stay tuned for details.

  I. Praise and Thanks: Thanks to Kim Britt and Jessica Hill for integrating Music in their classroom. I heard joyful sounds from our Kinder students! I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers.  Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair! I appreciate the teachable moment they provided to our students on how sales tax is figured in a purchase. What a great way to make learning relevant in support of our Math SIT Goal! II.   Today Is The First Day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I have a copy of the amazing picture book, The Astronaut With A Song For The Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa.  Please let me know if you would like for me to visit your classroom and read it to our students. It's a wonderful and inspiring book about an inspiring Space Pioneer.  See below for the book cover and a sample page from the book: I.
