I. Praise and Thanks: 
  • Let's celebrate our amazing Academic Tutors! Joanna Romine, Shannon Shaver, and Jessica Hill exemplify our Portrait of a Lab School Team Member on a daily basis. I appreciate their commitment to our mini-Mountaineers and their willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty to support their teammates. All three exemplify the Portrait element of "implementing with fidelity the curriculum programs that have been selected by the school for instructional purposes."

III. Updates

A. Faculty Meetings This Week
  • This Tuesday, we will have a Faculty Meeting at 3:00 p.m. in the Learning Lab. Our partners from Ed Directions will lead a whole staff professional learning experience.
  • On Friday, we will meet in the STEM Lab from 8:30-9:30 a.m. An overview of our school budget will be shared. Design Team Meetings are cancelled for this day in order to accommodate time needed for the School Finance Overview.
B. Visitors This Week: 
  • This Monday, Melanie Sharpe, an EC Literacy Consultant at NC DPI, and Christopher Miller, a Math Consultant at NC DPI, will visit Middle Fork. They are interested in seeing our co-teaching model. 
  • App State EDU 2000 Students will visit on Monday. 
C. 4-5 Explore Expo
  • It's now time for 4-5 students to share their learning with friends in K-3. 
  • This is another opportunity for students to share their learning and practice their communication skills. 
  • Our partners from Open Way Learning will visit during the Explore Expo.

  I. Praise and Thanks: Thanks to Kim Britt and Jessica Hill for integrating Music in their classroom. I heard joyful sounds from our Kinder students! I appreciate the intentional efforts to uplift and motivate our mini-Mountaineers.  Thanks to Carla Clayton and Ayden Tackett for their efforts with our Book Fair! I appreciate the teachable moment they provided to our students on how sales tax is figured in a purchase. What a great way to make learning relevant in support of our Math SIT Goal! II.   Today Is The First Day of Hispanic Heritage Month! I have a copy of the amazing picture book, The Astronaut With A Song For The Stars: The Story of Dr. Ellen Ochoa.  Please let me know if you would like for me to visit your classroom and read it to our students. It's a wonderful and inspiring book about an inspiring Space Pioneer.  See below for the book cover and a sample page from the book: I.
